Nonprofit Quarterly: This week, the Nonprofit Quarterly assessed a study from Fidelity Charitable about giving attitudes, strategies, and priorities across generations and gender. While the publication had questions about the usefulness of some of the data, See3 was interested in the findings related to storytelling. According to the study, the majority of both Boomer and Millennial women who participated in the study create emotional connections to the causes they support. Nonprofit Times: Nonprofits don’t spend enough resources and effort on donor retention. Author Alison Fine says that nonprofits simply don’t engage often enough with existing donors, and conversations are required to keep donors coming back: “This isn’t just a problem. It is a spectacular type of failure. It doesn’t get the attention it needs and deserves because it upends the rhythms and precepts of fundraising’s conventional wisdom.”
Amazon keeps homeless shelter
New York Times: Amazon, which has been criticized in the past for its lack of charitable initiatives, has agreed to continue to share space in a hotel it owns in Seattle with a homeless shelter. The arrangement adds to a growing list of efforts by tech companies to address homelessness and other problems related to gentrification: “More than 10,000 people are homeless in the area, with more than 4,000 of them living on the streets, the Seattle/King County Coalition on Homelessness estimated in a report last year.”
